Doomsday season is once again upon us. The last 3 year in a row this time of the year has been the most active for DDAY (mainly because that’s when I actually change it) and this year is no different!
Big changes occurred this time around, probably some of the biggest changes since 2007 when I redesigned the mainline from being an IRC bot into a client/server system!
New in Doomsday 1.4:
Fixed Bugs:
- Fixed long standing issue with the telnet server which would cause it to eventually refuse new connections
- If debug mode is disabled, irc, telnet and the game server no longer continue to write to stdout
New Features:
- Moved Doomsday Configuration into database
- Created Gameplay achievements, 20 in total that the player can collect as they progress through the game
- New Doomsday Website with User profiles, Custom theming and Integrated client
- Session log for web client so that you can see your command history and incoming globals during a session
- Server side session timeout, If session goes stale for over an hour it is removed
- Player statistics are recorded in database now for Troops killed and lost, shuttles launched and shot down and for the amount of game wins
- New Web client Quick Commands sidebar for an easy click to common commands. Can be edited by User
- Clear log link which clears the web clients backlog if you find Doomsday is running too far off the screen
- Added catchalls for existing users to ensure their user database information is updated to new version when they re activate
- Statistics page added to new website which shows various global game stats
- Adjusted endgame() to handle session removal and also to preserve the global log instead of deleting it
Commands:
- Changed log command behavior, using log by itself will only show you entries you haven’t viewed yet
- report achievement command added which will show you your acquired achievements
- SESS Command for the server, If a Session exists in the database that Session ID can be used instead of logging in to issue commands. Mainly used for new web client
To play doomsday you can use one of the many clients currently running:

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Laura from Bachmann trains for her courteous and prompt assistance on getting me a replacement DCC controller after mine had failed after only a month. I was a bit concerned that they weren’t going to accept my paypal receipt at first but they did without question and I had a new unit a week later.
Thanks again for the great support!

If you have been following my model railroad blogs then by now you should have noticed a recurring cast member in most of my photos and it isn’t your average house cat. I would say probably most people my age have no idea what the Chessie System was but seeing I spent every weekend as a child in the downtown side of Niagara Falls I have early memories of these power cats that would come roaring through town on the now defunct NYC/CPR line that use to cut right across the tourist end of the city. When I was 10 my father bought me a train set that featured a Chessie System GP38-2 number 3802. I no longer have this engine as I sent it away for repairs and it never returned but it didn’t matter because at that point I had seen the Chessie in real life and I had one of my own for a brief time. I was hooked.
When I was 15 I had a resurgence of Chessie, I got an Athearn GP35 with a bizarre little C that never existed, an F9 dummy and a BQ23-7 that never even existed in Chessies fleet but I didn’t care, I had Chessie running strong. Around when I was 16 the basement decided to leak all over where the layout was, I lost some things but my Chessies survived.
13 years later I am back into modelling and my HO scale heart still belongs to the Chessie system. When I bought my Bachman EZ command I made sure to get the one that came with a GP40 Chessie.
The Chessie system may have become defunct in 1986 but it is still my Railroad of choice for modelling.

Late Friday night after Sue and the babies had gone to sleep I installed the junction to my train layout. This completes all track additions and future additions will be in the area of buildings, scenery, rolling stock and 2 more dcc locomotives.
This junction has several spurs which will eventually have buildings next to them serving some sort of industry or delivery purpose and it will be serviced eventually by a switcher loco to set up or store cars for the two mainline trains.

I was a little busy yesterday at work so I will be combining round 4 and 5 today. This could stll be won by anyone as Round 5 will have a 2 point bonus answer anyone is able to grab.
Final Scores :
- MaxMouse 3
- Laura 3
- Waffles 2
The game ended in a tie as Laura was able to collect all of the round 5 points to deadlock the game. Thanks for playing!
Round 4
Round 5 – Name the song for 1 point but if you can name the game for the Commodore 64 it goes with you get an extra 2 points totally 3 for this round. Combined with an answer for round 4 you could win the game in one shot.
Good luck 🙂
