Round 1 winner: FooFighter

March 30, 2011

Congrats to FooFighter for figuring our (or guessing) it was Duke Nukem (technically duke3d but we are over a day in so I accepted it)

Here is a video of the original level and music. I picked this song because it had an awesome beat plus the level itself is pretty kick ass. Watch the whole video it is pretty good

I’ll be starting round 2 this afternoon keep an eye out 🙂

Name the game: Round 1

This is one of the first tracks I retooled. It’s from a game anyone who had DOS back in the day probably played. So let the guessing begin, good luck. Don’t just spam the post with games or i’ll just delete/ignore you.

Round 1

Bonus points if you name or describe the level it is from

I like to take old midis which now sound awful on modern hardware and touch them up in garage band giving them new life. Some songs don’t require much effort some require new instruments, volume adjustments, changes to the reverb etc. Anyways I have 3 selections which I would think could make a fun little blog game so starting tomorrow I will be releasing a post with a song and anyone who happens to read this can try and name the song. First person to name it is the winner! The songs will be from classic DOS games in the 90’s. Here is an obvious sample from Wing Commander but do not expect the rest to be so easy to pin

Laying down the mains

March 26, 2011

I went and bought the track for my mainline on Friday and laid it down later that night. I laid the plan out in a track planner and printed the list out to bring to the store but when I was laying the track did I remember to send the plan to myself? No. I ran into some troubles with the inner loop at first because I couldn’t figure out where my small filler straights went to balance the loop. I had to rebuild the plan today on my Mac to figure out where the spacers went and now it is laid out to spec 🙂

Future plans:

  • Switch from DC to DCC
  • Plan the inner branch line for industries and switching
  • Buy 2 road engines and 1 switcher DCC enabled
  • Populate future spurs with industry structures and appropriate rolling stock
  • Scenic touches

Gotta start somewhere

March 22, 2011

I started modeling again, my supplies are limited at the moment so I made do with what was available. Expect more updates in the future.
