These Triscuits are awesome!

September 28, 2009

triscuit medium

So Susan had this idea to buy some new fancy triscuits the other day when we were grocery shopping a few days ago. I was hesitant, so hard to break out of the norm which is a lifetime of super salty awesome triscuits which I have come to love.

So we bought them anyways and the entire time I was leery about it.

The next day as I am preparing the lunches for work I grab the box of bizarro triscuits and start packing them into the baggies. Of course I must perform the standard ritual of snack packing by eating some as I go.

Wow.

These triscuits are amazing. They’re also making me thirsty as hell.

Let me just say that this has to have been the best cracker I have ever eaten. They’re salty, they’re garlicky, they’re spicy and they are all of these things at the same time. Do not eat this cracker if you intend to be in close range of any humans however they will not appreciate your breath but I say to hell with them and eat up!

Things aren’t what they used to be.

Have you ever noticed that when you remember something from when you were a kid whether it was a place, movie, tv show, candy, place, thing, that you remember it so awesome and then when you revisit that situation again as an adult that it totally sucks?

That movie that you remember being so awesome

I must admit one of the greatest child hood memory squashers of my 20’s had to have been when I watched the never ending story as an adult. I remember this movie being so epic and the story being so amazing and then re watching it I found that it was exceptionally cheesy, the story was ridiculous and it ended with a child version of Say my name bitch! Falcor was still awesome though but aside from him it was a total disappointment and I have avoided re watching many child hood movies because of this one now.

Exceptions:

  • Teenage mutant ninja turtles
  • Transformers
  • Goonies
  • Muppet movies
  • Old cartoon garfield movies

The old home town you remember being so awesome is actually a shithole

I remember my old town of Crystal beach with much fondness, the old park, my moms restaurant, my old friends that I wonder what happened to, the “general store” that we opened after the restaurant, the beach, the arcade near the beach where I beat double dragon arcade when I was young. Good times. One of my favorite memories is drawing a stop sign on my hand and going to the park and riding the Giant all afternoon. I then of course got in trouble for missing dinner but oh well. I still had a good time. Anyways, to the crushing moment! I for years have been going to Windmill Point park in Fort Erie and of course I went through the old town one day and drove by my old house and man, kids have some sugar coated memories. I didn’t live near the park so its not like its run down like that part of town this is just what it looks like all the time. Went by my old baby sitters and all over the place, not at all as I remembered.

Exceptions:

  • Linos Pizza is still tasty
  • Beach is still nice
  • Palmwood is still there
  • Someone still makes those awesome cinnamon suckers
  • Ridgeway doesn’t suck
  • Logan Berry still exists and is damn awesome.

Food that was great as a kid totally sucks now

Remember Zoodles? I do, I also remember all of my favourite cartoon shows had their own noodly tasty canned food too and I had to eat it! Well it sucks now! Zoodles tastes like there is little minute stones or something hard in the sauce that irritates me to no end not to mention the sauce is horrible. Grilled cheese used to be a favourite of mine but it is too greasy now which pisses me off and lets not even get started with sloppy joes. Getting old is crap!

Exception:

  • I will still eat Chef Bouardee
  • Logan berry is the best drink of all time and those who disagree suck.

I don’t remember this game looking like this…

Go back and play a video game you haven’t played in 5 or more years you’ll be like man I loved the way this game looked then it will start up and you will barf! I do not run into this too often because I am an old game junky and play oldass games all the time but if I don’t play the game for a long long time and go back to it I definitely notice. I notice this more with games made in the last 15 years. I expect only so much from 8 and 16 bit so I don’t get that affect from those games which are so dear to me but anything from 1995+ going back to it can have that negative affect!

In conclusion it would seem we look back at our life with rose coloured brains so be careful when you actually decide to revisit situations you are fond off as you may be faced with disappointment sometimes.

It worked! Sort of. Now it really works!

September 25, 2009

So just to keep everyone posted on what I am working on I have been learning how to make a WordPress plugin out of my Facebook Notes comments extractor and yesterday it successfully pulled in its first comments from Facebook and added them to my database.

I was quite excited.

However, I noticed a couple blogs were not listing and neither were there comments. As it turns out … was being turned into one character and ‘ were also being changed into another version of themselves in UTF8 and when I was querying the database obviously the strings were not matching.

Then! the replace functions I wrote to counter this were not changing it!

Finally I resorted to regexp and the exact same replace query in regexp did what the C string style replace would not. Now it works perfectly (for me anyways) and I’m going to give the plugin to a couple people who have been following this and see if t works for them or erases their blogs entirely!

Mission accomplished!

September 20, 2009

If you recall from a couple of my previous posts I have been trying to get my imported Facebook notes comments back into WordPress.

The mission I laid out before myself was to be able to read and separate the authors and comments from the raw data.

Anyways as of about 10 minutes ago I achieved this goal and the debug output of my script was some of the following:

Note: What’s the point of the quarter for the shopping carts?
Author: Lisa Taylor
Comment: Phil… I must ask you… “HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO WELLAND???””” Take a look around… there are shopping carts every where!!!! I don’t blame the retailers. But I must agree I wont shop at a place that has those stupid Quarter Machines.
Author: Bernie Benjamin Korten
Comment: i think the idea of this is so they dont have to pay pple to go in the parking lot and collect the carts cause if you want your quarter back youll bring the cart back and not leave it in the middle of the parking lot.
Author: Seann Alexander
Comment: need to upgrade the slot to a toonie or a loonie.
Author: Sandra Lynn Glover
Comment: What we did at Fleming, if we didn’t have a car, was to go to Food Basics, and just take the carts back to the campus with us… They hated us for that, posted signs, never stopped anyone, and we didn’t give a shit about the quarter.

Now I just need to write it to check the title against word press posts and add comments that don’t exist but that’ll be easy compared to getting here 😉

Anyways this was pretty fun to get this far. Here is what the current script does:

  • Logs into Mobile Facebook
  • Switches to the notes page
  • Collects the note links of all notes on all pages
  • Goes through each note and grabs the author and comments

Time to get that data back into my blog!

The doctor is in

September 19, 2009

The connection doctor that is.

I did some software updates today which usually is not a big deal except I decided to also update the imap server as well. Last time i tried to do this was when Debian Lenny first released and it killed my imap server so I reverted the package and put a hold on it.

I decided that it was high time I stopped running from my problems and see if either the package was fixed or if it was some configuration problem on my end.

  • I removed the hold on my courier-imap and its supporting packages
  • Updated my source list
  • Sent an e-mail to the spenced.com support mailing list letting everyone know things may catch on fire…
  • Took a deep breath and apt-get dist-upgrade’d

7500kb/s and 3 minutes later the update was complete

Database server was fine, web server was fine, webmin was working right, went to Squirrel mail and it was like Fuck you! Connection dropped. Well not exactly but that’s what it felt like.

I tail -f’d my mail.log and it showed my login connection then nothing…Great, big help there asshole logs!

Sent myself a test mail, did a qmail-stat, smtp and Pop3 were fine, just imap was being shitty. WTF I thought to myself. I get home and pop open mail.app and it fails to connect too so I pop open window -> Connection doctor and turn on details and I find…

* BYE [ALERT] Fatal error: Account’s mailbox directory is not owned by the correct uid or id:

uh..ok To the google!

I stumble across this mailing list convo and one of last e-mail explains they added a sanity check without really telling anyone that just tells your mail client a big Fuck you! if the id doesn’t match. Well of course the damn UID’s don’t match I’m using vpopmail everything has the same frakin user and group!

Atleast now I had a work around,

IMAP_MAILBOX_SANITY_CHECK=0 and everything was back t normal. Thank you connection doctor for giving me more detail than the servers own bloody logs!
