Hamilton Ontario does not have a mountain!
September 16, 2009
As I was driving through Hamilton 2 weekends ago with a friend of mine all along King st were these signs that said [<- Mountain Access]. I look to the left and there is the escarpment but no mountain!
For some reason people from Hamilton Ontario are under the mistaken impression that they have a mountain
No, I’m afraid you do not. You have an escarpment. This is not the same as a mountain.
Does this make you feel cool to have a mountain?
I’ll continue this trend into the Niagara area to make us Super Duper cool like Hamilton!
The following locations are renamed immediately to the following:
- Murray Mountain
- Clifton Mountain
- Drummond Mountain
- Queenston Mountain Heights
- The Niagara Mountain
- Niagara on the Lake is now known as Niagara under the Mountain
If there are any more mountains needing to be named in the area please feel free to bring them to my attention.

So, there is a second picture here of the niagara escarpment that really adds the punch line but unfortunately facebook users seem forbidden to see it
This is a good post
Someone has to spread the word.
I think it’s pretty sad that this annoys you……as a Hamiltonian, we are quite aware that this is not a mountain, in fact we often refer to it as the escarpment as well. “The Mountain” is just a nickname, for lack of a better word. But you go ahead and “spread the word” because I am sure that in these crazy times people are dying to know that Hamilton is innocently calling their escarpment a mountain.
Oh, I’ll spread the word
your gay! and so is this whole article. and the fact that this bothered you so much that you went and wrote about it….get a life mate!
My gay what? Oh… You mean you’re
Brilliant post! Nice to see that I’m not the only one that was bothered by “The Hamilton Mountain”.
Yeah, we call it the mountain. I’m not really sure why, since it isn’t a mountain, but there you have it. It sounds much better than, “I’m going up the escarpment.”
